Giuseppe Verdi
from La forza del destino (1862)
from Il Corsaro (1848)
from Macbeth (1847)
“Va pensiero” from Nabucco (1842) (audience sing-along)

Celebrate the life-long collaboration between Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901) and Francesco Maria Piave (1810–1876), who wrote the libretti for Verdi’s numerous operas, such as Macbeth, Il Corsaro, and La forza del destino. Verdi’s music stirred the heart with powerful themes of vengeance and betrayal, torment and madness, all rising together to become the great Risorgimento (Re-awakening). This revolutionary movement encouraging Italian unity and liberation was at the heart of Verdi’s artistic vision. He wrote to his close friend Piave in 1848: “The hour of liberation has come, believe it.”

Join One World Symphony’s Verdi night by singing the moving chorus from Nabucco, an anthem of hope. It is our profound hope that our audience will lend us their voices in this song of courage, community, virtue, and resilience. Click the button at left to download the music and lyrics!
