Ariadne auf Naxos:
Comic vs. Tragic

June 27 & 29, 2008

Kathy PatrickKathy Patrick

1. Basics

Place of Birth: New Haven, CT; but grew up on beautiful Cape Cod, MA

Education/Training: BM in Violin Performance from Boston University College of Fine Arts., MA in Viola Performance from New York University Steinhardt School

2. What was your favorite memory of One World Symphony's sold-out Town Hall Debut in March 2006?
The Proposal... Followed closely by the performance of An American in Paris, which brought back a lot of memories for me from a different time in my life. I also thought the Symphonic Dances were exciting and energizing to play, especially with the audience's participation.

3. What was the highlight of your One World Symphony career to date?
the Town Hall debut

4. Which piece are you most looking forward to performing in One World Symphony's upcoming Town Hall program on March 2007? And why?
Stravinsky's Firebird It's a great piece, and a challenge. I am also looking forward to playing the Hitchcock movie music.

5. Which Star Wars character do you most relate to? And why?
R2D2 or Leia (maybe more appropriate?) -- for their loyalty and tenacity.

6. If you had to choose, which is your favorite Hitchcock film? And why?
Rear Window. Not just an amazing classic thriller, it also highlights human nature's own voyeuristic tendencies.... North by Northwest is my second favorite... Followed by Rebecca (which, incidentally, was the only Hitchcock movie to win an Oscar for Best Picture).

7. If you had to choose, what is your favorite movie/film? And why?
Ugh, I don't like this kind of question! Way too many to choose from.... I feel like I should choose something like Citizen Kane (an amazing film), or something by Kurosawa... But the truth is, I positively adore the movie Moulin Rouge (with Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, who both sing all of the songs in this movie -- they both have amazing voices, who knew?)

8. What/Who was your first love?
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6, Pathetique. Oh, and a boy I met when I spent a summer in Provence, France when I was a teenager....

9. If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be? And why?
J.S. Bach -- to watch or observe his composing process. Or, Stradivarius to find out what the secret is to his violin-making....

10. If you could be any type of animal, what would it be? And why?
A thoroughbred horse; they are so elegant, powerful and beautiful.

11. Why would you encourage our audience members to attend One World Symphony's upcoming Town Hall program on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 4pm?
To be inspired, energized, entertained, awed. To see a dedicated group of NYers putting their passion into what they believe in.

12. What is your Star Wars astrological sign? Also, it's not so much whether or not you believe in Star Wars signs as much as, do you believe there's truth in them?

LEO (July 23 - Aug. 22)
Star Wars Character: Princess Leia

Leia adds a whole new meaning to high self-assurance which is evident in Leos. She is a nurturing person with great physical strength. Like many Leos she will see that her mission for good is completed and she is very optimistic about the outcome.

Sure, there could be some truth in this! Why not? But I might have a very different idea if I was an Aries or an Aquarius.
