Most people
learn about classical music, and come to love it, through a combination
of musical exposure, in school and through lessons, combined with
live concert experiences. Attending live concerts is a critical
and inspiring component of the musical experience. But with ticket
prices exceeding $50 or even $200 in most venues, the vital experience
of live music is not available to all.
One World Symphony has responded to this lack of
arts availability in our schools and inner-city communities by
developing the unique Community Music program. This program
enables students and parents who would otherwise not be in a position
to afford classical concerts to obtain tickets sponsored through
anonymous donor support. Accompanied by parents or community groups,
children, may attend live concerts during the One World Symphony
season!
Through
generous support from individual patrons, more than one thousand
students and families have attended One World Symphony concerts
from Harlem Children's Zone, Harlem School for the Arts, Chinatown
YMCA, Heritage School, Casita Maria, Big Brother Big Sister, Third
Street Music School Settlement, LEAP, Singer's Forum, The Lighthouse,
and KIPP Schools.
