Uptown or downtown? Electronic or acoustic?
Rock grunge or refined classic? Perhaps no other work intones
contrast in musical style more appropriately than The Unanswered
Question by American pioneer Charles Ives. Discover how
living New York composers, such as John Corigliano (Academy
Award Winner for the film The Red Violin), Grammy Award
winner Steve Reich, Pulitzer Prize recipient Elliott Carter,
and young New York composers have either followed one path
or embraced all forms of music. The tale of life's struggles
in Puccini's opera La Boheme is reincarnated in the
rock musical RENT, set in Manhattan's Lower East Side.
